Why does my company's email need to be filtered?

What is spam?
For the purpose of this website, spam refers to email messages that are transmitted without the recipient's consent or request, usually in the form of commercial advertisements.
Does this service slow down the speed of my email?
The email comes into our system, gets processed and leaves our system on state of the art, high speed equipment.
Though there may be a short delay, it would not be of notable significance.
How much junk email gets filtered?
We are currently filtering over 95% of the spam coming through our system.
What happens to the filtered email?
All email that gets tagged as spam is held in our quarantine for 1 week. Each
of our users gets a daily digest listing all of the quarantined spams for that
day. We have also added a web interface so users can access their “spam” in
real time in case there is any mail that they need. Whitelists and blacklists
are also easily set up by each user.
How exactly does the email flow?
With your current set up, all your incoming email comes straight into your existing email server. By making a DNS change, all your email will first come to our server, get filtered for spam and viruses, and then it is sent on to your existing mail server.
How exactly does the spam filter work?
We scan the email for attachments, and the attachments for viruses. We scan the header, the subject line, the body, and the signature and look for various indications to see if the email is legit or spam. We have over 750 different rules, covering everything from where the email came from, to the hyperlinks in it, to various keywords and phrases. The spam is quarantined, as are the viruses. Then the legitimate email is passed through either back to your current mail server, or it can be stored within our network, whichever is more convenient for you.

A virus is a script or program that can damage or destroy information on your computer system or network.
How long does it take to get set up?
Setup is relatively simple. We will need to speak briefly to your technical contact or ISP in order to make the necessary changes to your email system. We will guide them through the simple changes.
